The  Titanic gained tragic fame through the  events that occurred on its maiden voyage on April 14,  1912. For the  White Star line traveling Queen of the Sea should carry  1,316  passengers from Southampton to New York. At  11.40  in the night, the British luxury liner collided with an iceberg  in the Atlantic and  was torn open on the starboard side over a length  of almost 100 meters. The Titanic sank on April 15 at 2:20 am and 1,503  of the 2,206 people on board were killed.
