The  first prototype of the MIG-29 was first flown in 1978. The plane became  operational in 1984. The fighter is armed with one 23 mm rotary cannon  plus two R60 Aphid or A-11 close-range anti aircraft missiles and four  Apex or AA-10 medium range missiles.
